GPA posts boost in November box volumes

The Georgia Ports Authority handled more containers in November compared to 12 months earlier, thanks to a strengthening export market and a busy peak holiday season.    The Port of Savannah handled 300,671 TEUs in November, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) said.
   Of that amount, 246,877 TEUs were loaded containers, an 11 percent increase in loaded TEUs from November 2015.
   Overall the port experienced higher container volumes due to a busy peak holiday season and a strengthening export market, the GPA said.
   A GPA spokesperson told American Shipper November growth was fueled by exports via Savannah to Europe and the Mediterranean.
   Ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting’s Port Dashboard tool shows the port is called by 38 liner services, 31 of which operate with fully cellular containerships.
