Unifeeder to commence second Baltic loop

The short sea specialist will launch an additional loop between Klaipeda, Lithuania, and Gydnia, Poland, to the United Kingdom, doubling weekly capacity on the route.    Short sea container service provider Unifeeder will commence an additional Polish/Baltic loop, doubling weekly capacity between the United Kingdom and Klaipeda, Lithuania and Gydnia, Poland, according to port operator ABP.
   The loop will commence sailing on June 29 out of Klaipeda to Hull, UK, the second of two loops that sail from the Baltic regions to Immingham and Humber in the United Kingdom.
   “This additional short sea service aims to directly compete with the daily ro-ro ferry traffic and has been secured in order to meet the demand of the steadily increasing manufacturing industries in the Baltics and Poland. Unitized cargo is viewed as the most secure and efficient delivery method for transporting goods overseas”, said Hull port operator ABP.
   ABP recently invested $63.3 million in infrastructure improvements, $19 million of which is going towards two new Liebherr ship-to-shore container cranes for the Hull Container Terminal by March 2018.
   “We are extremely pleased to have secured this deal with Unifeeder as it means that together, we are able to provide door to door delivery around the clock to customers across the country,” said Simon Bird, regional director for ABP Humber. “In the wake of the Brexit referendum we have heavily invested in our facilities as we have faith in our economy and this agreement demonstrates that we made the correct decision.”
