CN unveils Illinois training center

The railroad wants to train 250 students each week in the new facility.    Canada National opened a 55,000-square-foot employee training center in Homewood, Ill., on Tuesday, investing $25 million in the facility.
   The center is a cornerstone in the railroad’s workforce renewal, CN President and Chief Executive Officer Claude Mongeau stated. “This year will see the hiring of more than 3,500 employees across our North American network,” he stated.
   Every week an estimated 250 students from across the United States will train for conductor, car mechanic and track supervisor jobs, among other positions, according to CN. Learning laboratories were also built, so employees could receive hands-on training for locomotive simulators and dispatcher stations, officials added.
   Last month, CN completed construction of a training center in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where it plans to train 350 students from across Canada every week.
