Port of Antwerp courts India business

Trade mission aimed at increasing trade through Antwerp.    Port of Antwerp officials are scheduled to visit India next week to court potential investors and exporters seeking access to the broader European market.
   A record 5 million tons of cargo connected to India moved through Europe’s second largest port in 2014.
   The port authority said it will hold investment seminars in Mumbai and Pune, along with representatives from Flanders Investment & Trade and the Belgian Ministry of Finance, to present the Port of Antwerp’s advantages as an investment location. A networking reception for Antwerp port companies and their Indian counterparts is also scheduled.
   Antwerp dispatched a full-time representative to Mumbai in 2006 because of the economic potential in the tri-city area that includes Nasik. Top industries include information technology, auto manufacturing and biotech.
   In late 2014, the Port of Antwerp and the Association of Multimodal Transport Operators of India launched the India Nation electronic platform to facilitate contacts and exchanges of information between Antwerp and forwarders, shippers and logistics companies.
