Old Dominion Freight Line reports mixed July, August results

The less-than-truckload carrier announced its less-than-truckload tons per day increased significantly in July and August over last year due to a growth in shipments, which was partially offset by a decline in less-than-truckload weight per shipment.    Old Dominion Freight reported a year-over-year increase in less-than-truckload (LTL) tons per day of 7.7 percent and 5.8 percent in July and August, respectively. The LTL carrier attributed the increase to growth in shipments, which was partially offset by a year-over-year decline in LTL weight per shipment.
The company posted a year-over-year drop in LTL revenue per hundredweight of 0.8 percent and 1.2 percent in July and August, respectively, which the company attributed to a decrease in fuel surcharges.
Excluding fuel surcharges, LTL revenue per hundredweight rose 5.3 percent in July and 5.6 percent in August in comparison to the same months in 2014.
Based out of Thomasville, N.C., Old Dominion Freight offers thousands of direct shipping points within the lower 48 states and provides direct service to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. In addition, the LTL carrier offers service to the Caribbean, Europe, the Far East, Central America, South America and points in between.
