Hanjin receives two 4,275-TEU ships

Hanjin receives two 4,275-TEU ships Hanjin Shipping today took delivery of two Panamax 4,275-TEU containerships for use in the all-water Asia/U.S. East Coast trade.
   The Hanjin Norfolk and Hanjin Piraeus, christened at Samsung Heavy Industries in Geoje Island, are the second and the third in a series of the eight sister ships ordered in 2005.
   The ships will enter the AWE-5 Central service of the CKYH Alliance — COSCO Container Lines, “K” Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin — in early June.
   The service is due to restart next week following its suspension at the end of last year. The port rotation is Xiamen, Yantian, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, Savannah, Norfolk, Charleston and Xiamen.
   The Seoul, Korea-based carrier said the “state-of-the art” engines, producing 49,700 hp, allow the vessels to consume less fuel than any other ships of the same class and can easily change speed according to operational situations.
