The first shipment of the fruit left by air from Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on Friday, December 8, according to a report in the Jamaica Observer. The shipments were halted a year ago after the USDA found high levels of the toxin hypoglycin in the fruit.
The USDA decided to lift the ban in October, pending the implementation of a program of strict monitoring by USDA inspectors.
