MAERSK SEALAND, CMA-CGM TO SHARE SPACE ON CARIBBEAN SERVICE

MAERSK SEALAND, CMA-CGM TO SHARE SPACE ON CARIBBEAN SERVICE    Maersk Sealand and CMA-CGM have entered into a vessel-sharing agreement for four Caribbean Basin services, to start Sept. 11.
   The services will provide weekly sailings with vessels jointly operated by the two lines.
   Maersk has provided a Caribbean service since 1998. CMA-CGM has served the Caribbean market through Cagema.
   “The vessel sharing agreement with Maersk Sealand will allow the deployment of bigger and faster vessels, thereby improving the regularity of our services and improving coverage of the market,” said Yan Dufour, CMA-CGM's regional director for the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico.
   “We have seen the Caribbean market continue to expand and mature,” said William C. Duggan, director of Latin Americas services for Maersk Inc. in Madison, N.J. “The new vessel-sharing agreement will create strategic benefits for Caribbean shippers and improve their competitive advantage in world markets.”
   The four new services and port rotations are:
   * Windward Service: Miami, St. Maarten, Antigua, St. Lucia, Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica, Bahamas and Miami.
   * Leeward Service: St. Maarten; St. Croix; San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Maarten; St. Kitts; Guadeloupe; St. Barthelemy; St. Maarten; San Juan; St. Thomas; and St. Maarten.
   * Inter-Island Feeder Service: St. Lucia, Martinique, Dominica, St. Vincent, Trinidad, Grenada, Barbados and St. Lucia.
   Guyanas Feeder Service: Trinidad, Guyanas, Suriname, Trinidad.
