MSC to introduce new call to Liverpool

The rotation of the new service connects Turkey with Europe and Canada and will be served by eight 5,500-TEU ships.

   Mediterranean Shipping Company, the world’s second-largest shipping company, is set to introduce a new call to the Port of Liverpool, which comes after the 2M alliance announced in late 2018 the port will be a permanent call on its TA4 transatlantic service.
   The rotation for the new service is Turkey — Italy — France — Spain — Portugal — UK Liverpool — Canada. The route will be served by eight 5,500-TEU ships with two calls per week, according to a press release by Peel Ports, which owns and operates six U.K. ports.
   The new service is expected to drive growth in Peel Ports’ rail and short-sea feeder services to and from Scotland. The company in February announced it was aiming to create 250 jobs, mostly in Liverpool, to deal with the expected extra demand.
   “This is another vote of confidence in the Northwest and our location for bringing the heart of the U.K. economy closer to their international markets,” Peel Ports CEO Mark Whitworth said.
