2012 AOTOS recipients named

   United Seamen’s Service announced Tuesday at its annual meeting that it will bestow the Admiral of the Ocean Sea (AOTOS) award on three people this October.
   They are Sen. Mary L. Landrieu, D-La.; Niels M. Johnsen, chairman and chief executive of International Shipholding Corp.; and Robert Johnston, senior vice president and head of the U.S. flag strategic business unit at Overseas Shipholding Group.
   The AOTOS Award Ceremony is the primary fundraising event held by United Seamen’s Service which assists the U.S. Merchant Marine, American armed forces, and seafarers around the world. USS is a non-profit agency that was started in 1942.
   Last year 166,300 seafarers visited its six centers overseas. It also provides seagoing libraries to American vessels through its affiliate, the American Merchant Marine Library Association.
