All three men suffered broken legs while the ship was being loaded with ship’s gear, said Port spokesperson Karen Fox. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident, she said.
The Associated Press quoted Wilmington Fire Department Battalion Chief Sam Hill Jr. as saying the men were hit by a loader that was attached to a crane and that the equipment pinned the men against a wall in the ship’s cargo hold.
