National Retail Systems will use converted drayage tractors to pull containers from the port to its container yard, with the ability to move containers to L.A.-area IKEA stores in the next phase.
The third party logistics services provider National Retail Systems said last week it has started an electric drayage operation exclusively for IKEA Distribution Services North America in Los Angeles, Calif.
The electric drayage tractors run completely on electric charge, eliminating the use of fuel, and have a range of 100 miles.
NRS said it will pull IKEA containers from the Port of Los Angeles to NRS’ off-port yard. Moving forward, NRS said the trucks have the capacity to handle round trips from the NRS yard to any IKEA stores in the Los Angeles market.
