A. P. MOLLER/MAERSK TO ACQUIRE SAFMARINE
A.P. Moller/Maersk Group has agreed to buy South Africa’s Safmarine
Container Lines for $240 million.
Safmarine operates about 50 vessels and 80,000 containers in several
trade lanes.
Safmarine will join A.P. Moller/Maersk as an independent unit, but
Maersk and Safmarine will coordinate their liner networks.
Maersk said Safmarine’s liner services will retain their existing names
— including Safmarine, SCL, CMBT and SafBank — and will continue to be
represented by their existing agencies.
