AA Cargo expands temperature-controlled network

American Airlines Cargo expanded its San Juan cold-chain network last week with the opening of a new 600-square-foot space and will open a 4,000-square-foot drive-through perishable facility in the Dallas-Fort Worth area tomorrow.    American Airlines Cargo is expanding its temperature-controlled network in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area to support demand for both pharmaceutical and perishable goods throughout the world, the airline said.
Last week, AA Cargo expanded its San Juan cold-chain network with the opening of a new 600-square-foot space, bringing its total cooler space to 1,000 square feet at this location.
The facility will now operate two separate, interchangeable units that can house temperature-sensitive goods from 15 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit to 77 degrees Fahrenheit), or 2 degrees Celsius to 8 degrees Celsius (35.6 degrees Fahrenheit to 46.4 degrees Fahrenheit).
The facility features 12 plug-in receptacles, 24/7 monitoring technology and more capacity for each temperature range.
Over-the-counter prescription medicines, along with active pharmaceutical ingredients used for the manufacturing of medications, are commonly transported through San Juan.
In addition, AA Cargo is opening its new 4,000-square-foot drive-through perishable facility at its hub in Dallas-Fort Worth tomorrow, which comes in addition to its existing 1,800-square-foot perishable and 800-square-foot pharmaceutical coolers at the hub.
Dallas-Fort Worth is an important gateway for cargo moving from Latin America to regions in Europe and Asia, American Airlines cargo said in a statement. A variety of perishables, such as produce, Chilean salmon and fresh cut flowers are transported through Dallas-Fort Worth.
