AAPA honors Rep. Harmon

The American Association of Port Authorities named Rep. Jane Harmon, D-Calif., as its 'Port Person of the Year.' The organization is honoring Harmon for her work to include $400 million in funding for port security grants in the 2008 Homeland Security appropriation as authorized in the 2006 SAFE Port Act and to improve the enrollment process for the Transportation Worker Identification Credential.

Harmon sits on the House Homeland Security Committee and served eight years on the House Intelligence Committee, including four years as its ranking member. She was closely involved in shaping legislation to reform the intelligence system and homeland security policies in response to the 9/11 attacks.

Harmon will be presented with the award at AAPA's annual spring conference in Washington.
