AAR'S HAMBERGER COMMENDS LABOR-MANAGEMENT AGREEMENT

Edward R. Hamberger, president and chief executive officer of the Association of American Railroads voiced his support Thursday for a new management-labor agreement resolving a long-standing issue involving the preemption of collective bargaining agreements following rail mergers and consolidations.

“I am delighted that labor and management have reached agreement on standards to govern when rail employees are affected by consolidations or mergers,” Hamberger said. “This agreement continues to strengthen the cooperative relationship between rail labor and management.”

“Furthermore, this historic agreement bonds rail labor and management together in opposition to rail re-regulation,” Hamberger said.

Both sides also agreed to back legislation reauthorizing the Surface Transportation Board, Hamberger said.
