Jones was CEO of the Mersey Docks & Harbour Co., owners of the Ports of Liverpool, Heysham and the Medway ports of Sheerness and Chatham. He oversaw the company's takeover by Peel Ports in 2005.
Jones will replace Bo Lerenius, who is retiring from ABP at the end of March after eight years at the helm.
