ACL moves service from Maher to Ports America in N.J. Atlantic Container Lines is moving its transatlantic “A” service, which utilizes its fleet of combination container and roll-on/roll-off ships, from Maher Terminals in Elizabeth, N.J., to Ports America’s Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) this week.
   ACL has signed a seven-year agreement with PNCT, and ships in the service will call the terminal twice weekly — once as they come down the East Coast on their inbound voyages from Europe, and once as they sail northward along the coast before heading back to Europe.
   PNCT will handle the company’s containerized cargo; the ships move to the FAPS terminal in Newark to load and discharge ro/ro cargo.
   Andy Abbott, chief executive officer, noted ACL's service to West Africa also has a double call — at Red Hook in Brooklyn for containerized cargo and the NEAT terminal in Jersey City for ro/ro cargo.
   “We’d love to consolidate in a single terminal, but companies seem to be going the other way — they want to handle exclusively container or ro/ro cargo,” Abbott said.
