Adams leaves CBP for TSA

Adams leaves CBP for TSA Vera Adams, executive director of commercial targeting in the Office of International Trade, has left U.S. Customs and Border Protection after a long career to join the Transportation Security Administration.
Tuesday was Adam’s first day on the job as the deputy federal security director at Los Angeles International Airport. She will help manage the security workforce and daily operations to secure planes and facilities.
The move is a homecoming of sorts for Adams, who previously served as regional field director for the Los Angeles area ports of entry and port director for the Port of Los Angeles-Long Beach. She previously was executive director trade enforcement and facilitation in the Office of Field Operations, before switching offices as part of an internal reorganization. In those roles she was responsible for combating counterfeit imports and other commercial fraud, as well as compliance with trade agreements.
Adams began in the U.S. Customs Service 18 and a half years ago as an import specialist.
Also, Brenda Smith has been named executive director of trade policy and programs in the Office of International Trade.
Smith comes to the job from the Office of International Affairs and Trade Relations where she was director of policy and programs. She replaces acting executive director Anne Maricich, who was wearing two hats and will now focus on her job as director of policy for revenue and antidumping.
The personnel moves were announced during last month’s meeting of the Commercial Operations Advisory Committee.
