Air Express International has formed a logistics company to operate a
new distribution center in China, furthering the U.S. forwarder’s expansion
plans there.
AEI Logistics (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. will operate the 25,000-square-foot
facility in a free trade zone 40 miles outside Shanghai. AEI will provide
shippers pick-and-pack, kitting, labeling and light assembly services at
the center, which can handle 1,600 pallets and is near a proposed airport
and Shanghai’s sea port.
AEI opened offices in four Chinese cities last year. The forwarder
operates 13 offices in China under a so-called "Class A" forwarding
license, which allows the company to sell its services directly to shippers.
