AFL to launch Halifax/New England service

AFL to launch Halifax/New England service    American Feeder Lines said it will launch a weekly service between the ports of Halifax, Boston and Portland, Maine.
AFL, which has announced ambitious plans to build a fleet of 10 Jones Act ships and offer short sea services on the East and Gulf coasts, said the service will following the path of the former 'Yankee Clipper,' which provided regular weekly service to New England for Hapag-Lloyd.

The new weekly service is to commence in the second quarter, depending on the phase-in dates of a charter vessel.
Rudy Mack, AFL's chief operating officer and former president and chief executive officer for Hapag-Lloyd (America), said the Yankee Clipper service had given the German carrier a competitive edge during his tenure at Hapag-Lloyd.
“Regular and reliable service has been missing since the demise of the feeder activities,” he said. “Now, we can offer very attractive transit times for imports and exports from and to all major destinations worldwide.”
AFL said it has hired Andrew Haines as vice president line management and that a regional office will be set up in Boston.
