Agility to manage logistics for AAFES in western Iraq
Agility has been tapped by the U.S. Defense Department's Army and Air Force Exchange Service to provide logistics services for its operations in western Iraq.
AAFES operates retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters, gas stations and other business on military installations worldwide.
Agility said on Tuesday that it will provide clearance and transportation services for general department store merchandise headed for AAFES locations in western Iraq by using its operations in Jordan. Agility, formerly named PWC Logistics, is based in Kuwait.
'AAFES retail operations in Iraq are currently being serviced by a distribution operation in Germany,' said Agility's Defense & Government Services group, based in Alexandria, Va., in a statement. 'This has historically left the retail sites in western Iraq with minimal accessibility and the hardest challenges for re-supply.'
Agility did not reveal the size or value of the logistics contract with AAFES.
