Ahern is new No. 2 at CBP
Jayson Ahern on Monday stepped into his new role as deputy commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection after serving five years as assistant commissioner of field operations. In that role he was in charge of 24,000 men and women who enforced customs law and security at 326 ports of entry.
Ahern replaces Deborah Spero, another longtime agency veteran who previously announced her retirement.
