Air China taps WFS for airfreight handling in Barcelona

The new, three-year contract extends Air China’s cargo handling agreement with Worldwide Freight Services to include freight operations on flights between Barcelona, Spain and Beijing and Shanghai in China.    Cargo handling company Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has signed a three-year contract to provide cargo services to Air China in Barcelona, WFS said in a statement Wednesday.
   The new agreement extends WFS’s operations with Air China in Spain to a sixth airport.
   Air China currently operates four weekly Boeing 777 flights from Barcelona to Beijing. Under the new contract, the airline will offer seven weekly services with the launch of new Shanghai operations, said WFS.
   WFS already provides cargo handling for Air China flights to and from Madrid and has also increased its services for Turkish Airlines to accommodate the carrier’s additional 40 metric ton-capacity Airbus A310 freighter flights from Madrid to Istanbul. According to WFS, the company handled 18,500 metric tons of airfreight for Turkish Airlines in Madrid in 2016, an increase of 6 percent from the previous year.
