Air Jamaica, Virgin finalize code share agreement

Air Jamaica and Virgin Atlantic have completed a code-share agreement that will create a unified London/Miami/Kingston service, with Virgin providing the lift from London to Miami and Air Jamaica from Miami to Kingston.

The code-share deal was worked into another agreement for Air Jamaica to sell its London Heathrow Airport slots to Virgin, according to a report in the Jamaica Gleaner. The report said Air Jamaica expects to bring in J$142 million ($2 million) during the first year of the agreement.

The code-sharing agreement is also significant in that it provides a new connection to Jamaica for flights from several other major cities in Europe, which is an important market segment for both the tourism industry and as an air cargo option.
