Airports see 2.2% rise in cargo

   Airports around the world reported an average cargo-activity increase of 2.2-percent in June, according to Airports Council International.
   ACI said the increase, which continues a trend seen during the last three quarters, is due to a ramp up of domestic demand in many countries and an overall recovery in world trade. In the U.S., Memphis International Airport saw a 1.2-percent decrease in activity, year-over-year, as airports in the Asia-Pacific region saw the biggest gains.
   “As we pass the year’s mid-point and look back over the last six months, it is impressive to see the continued resilience in air transport demand,” ACI World’s Economics Director Rafael Echevarne said in a statement. “The fragile state of the world economy, the recent geopolitical risks in Eastern Europe, and the Middle East and the Ebola outbreak in Western Africa represent significant downside risks for aviation. Thus, while there is an ongoing sense of optimism for the industry, one should be cognizant of these pitfalls.”
