Airports see cargo bump in July

ACI reported 6.7-percent growth in cargo volumes.    Airports around the world posted the strongest freight numbers in two years, seed a 6.7-perent overall bump, year-over-year, in volumes in July, according to Airports Council International.
   The group said North American airports saw an 8.9-percent increase in volumes during the month, while Middle Eastern airports saw the largest increase at 12 percent.
   The International Air Transport Association reported earlier this month that it saw a 5.8-percent growth in volumes by airlines.
   Rafael Echevarne, economics director for ACI World, said this robust average growth will likely come back down, mirroring the yearly growth trend of 3 percent. He noted that freight growth was up by 4.5 percent during the first seven months of the year.
   “Nevertheless, air freight markets appear to be out of the woods with the recent improvements in global trade and commerce,” Echevarne said. “While we have witnessed some slowdowns in certain areas of the world due to geo-political risks and disease outbreaks, on the whole, the resilience of the world’s major hubs has circumvented these dangers.”
