Alaska Railroad profits down 18% in 2005    The Alaska Railroad Corp.’s net income for 2005 dropped 18 percent to $12.7 million from 2004’s record $15.4 million.
   Operating income in 2005 was $6.8 million, down 33 percent from $10.1 million posted in 2004. Total revenues were $144 million, an 11 percent increase compared to $129.5 million in the previous year, while freight revenues were up 9 percent to $94.5 million from $86.5 million in 2004.
   Alaska Railroad is owned by the State of Alaska, and operates 525 route miles, providing both freight and passenger services to the cities of Anchorage and Fairbanks, the ports of Whittier, Seward, and Anchorage as well as Denali National Park and military installations. Vessel and rail barge connections are provided from Seattle, Wash., and Prince Rupert, British Columbia.
