Alaskans eye Prince Rupert

Some Alaskan exporters believe Maher Terminal’s new container facility in Prince Rupert, British Columbia could be a boon for business.

A report in Toronto’s Globe and Mail said sellers of seafood, minerals and forest products believe the port’s location, about 480 north of Vancouver, and proximity to Asian ports along the great circle route could make their products more attractive to Asian buyers.

The port is expected to open this fall.
