Almanza named FSIS administrator
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has appointed Alfred V. Almanza to administrator of the Food Safety and Inspection Service.
Almanza, a 30-year FSIS veteran, will oversee the USDA's regulation of meat, poultry and processed egg products, and more than 9,500 agency employees.
Since July 2007, Almanza has fostered productive relationships with the National Joint Council of Food Inspection Locals and other public health partners.
Prior to accepting the administrator position, he was district manager of the FSIS Dallas District Center where he provided direction to more than 600 employees located in more than 350 federally inspected establishments.
