Seattle-based e-commerce giant Amazon appears to be pushing ahead with its rapid growth strategy, saying last week it will be hosting its first “Jobs Day” this Wednesday because it has over 50,000 roles to fill across its U.S. fulfillment network.
The company is opening up 10 of its fulfillment centers on Jobs Day from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. local time, and plans to make thousands of on-the-spot job offers.
Jobs Day events will be held at Amazon’s fulfillment centers in Baltimore, Md.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Etna, Ohio; Fall River, Mass.; Hebron, Ky.; Kenosha, Wis.; Kent, Wash.; Robbinsville, N.J.; Romeoville, Ill.; and Whitestown, Ind.
Amazon will also be hosting off-site Jobs Day events from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. local time in Buffalo, N.Y. and Oklahoma City, Okla.
Amazon also unveiled last week its plans to open its second Michigan fulfillment center in Romulus. The 855,000-square-foot facility will create over 1,500 full-time associate roles.
As of the second quarter of 2017, Amazon had a total of 382,400 employees (full-time and part-time, excluding contractors and temporary personnel), a 42.2 percent year-over-year increase.
The company’s net income for the quarter totaled $197 million, down from $857 million for the second quarter of 2016, while net sales rose 25 percent year-over-year to $38 billion.
