Amazon opening 1m-square-foot DC in Macon, Ga.

E-commerce giant Amazon currently has operating fulfillment centers in three other Georgia cities: Jefferson, Lithia Springs and Union City.    Amazon.com is opening its fourth distribution center in Georgia, the state’s governor revealed Oct. 31.
The e-tailer will lease one million square feet of industrial space in Macon for the facility, and create more than 500 full-time jobs in Macon-Bibb County, according to Gov. Nathan Deal.
Currently, Amazon has operating fulfillment centers in the cities of Jefferson, Lithia Springs and Union City, as well as a facility in Braselton that supports customer fulfillment. Employees at the new location will pick, pack and ship large-sized items for customers including household furniture, sporting equipment and gardening tools.
“Georgia continues to be a great place for Amazon to do business and we look forward to adding a fulfillment center to better serve our customers in the region,” Amazon vice president of North America customer fulfillment Sanjay Shah said in a statement.
Newly created jobs at the Macon facility will include warehouse, management and supervisory positions, according to Gov. Deal’s office.
“Amazon’s continued investment in our state speaks to our dedication to improve, expand and modernize Georgia’s logistics and distribution network,” said Deal. “[S]uppliers can reach 80 percent of the U.S. population from Georgia in just a two-day truck drive or a two-hour flight.”
“We are thrilled that Amazon continues to deepen its roots, and grow its presence in Georgia,” added Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson. “Amazon’s commitment to our state has transformed our technology and logistics infrastructure.”
No timeline has been given for when the new Macon facility is expected to open.
