The e-commerce giant said the planned facility will create 1,000 full-time hourly positions, as well as opportunities for management and support roles.
Located on 1,500 acres in Edgerton, Kan., a southwest suburb of Kansas City, LPKC is a massive distribution and warehouse development adjacent to BNSF’s newest intermodal facility, which opened in late 2013. The development recently announced plans to expand further by building a 654,656-square-foot facility called Inland Port V.
Current tenants at LPKC include DeLong Grain, Demdaco, Flexsteel, International Transload Logistics, Jet.com, Kubota Tractor Corporation and Smart Warehousing, according to LPKC’s website.
Amazon said employees at the Edgerton fulfillment center will pick, pack and ship large items like big-screen televisions and sports equipment to customers.
“We’re excited to bring 1,000 great full-time jobs with benefits to the Kansas City region and proud to further invest in the state with this new fulfillment center,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vice president of North American operations.
Amazon also operates a 267,000-square-foot fulfillment center at Lenexa Logistics Center in Lenexa, Kan.
“This is good news for Kansas,” said Governor Sam Brownback. “In addition to creating 1,000 jobs, Amazon is investing in our state, workforce and the community. The quality of the Kansas workforce and our central location in the heart of the nation contributed to their decision to locate in Logistics Park Kansas City.”
