American Air adding South America flight from Miami

American Airlines said it will expand its services to South American later this year, adding the first nonstop flights from Miami International Airport to Montevideo, Uruguay, in July and additional flights to Colombia in December.

The new direct service to Montevideo starts July 1 and will include three roundtrip flights a week. American will also continue to offer service to Montevideo via Buenos Aires, Argentina, on the days when there is no nonstop service. American will use Boeing 767-300 aircraft for the service.

The increased service to Colombia begins Dec. 13, and will include new seven-day-a-week service between Miami and Barranquilla, plus three additional weekly roundtrips on the existing seven-day-a-week service to Medellin.

Both of the added Colombia services use Boeing 737-800 planes.

American, the largest carrier at Miami International, offers both passenger and cargo services.
