American Commercial Lines increases demurrage

American Commercial Lines increases demurrage Barge carrier American Commercial Lines said it will increase demurrage and other charges for grain shipments in an effort to get better utilization of its equipment by reducing the time barges are idle while awaiting loading and discharge.
   At origin locations, after three free days, demurrage charges will be $200 for days four and five and $400 per day for day six and beyond.
   At destination locations, the demurrage charge is $500 per day after three free unloading days
   Gulf reconsignment charges, the fees assessed to shippers for changing the destination consignee on Gulf in-port moves, increases to $500 from $300.
   Mike Ryan, senior vice president of sales and marketing, explained that “by improving our asset utilization, we ultimately lower the cost of barge transportation to our customers, including our grain customers.”
