American Honda to export Acuras from JaxPort

Honda is adding Acuras to the mix of vehicles it ships overseas from the Port of Jacksonville.    America Honda Motor Co. has begun exporting Acura MDX and TLX models to the Middle East through the Port of Jacksonville, the port authority said Tuesday. Auto processor AMPORTS is preparing and loading the vehicles, which will be carried by Höegh Autoliners.
   It is the first time new Acura models will be available in the Middle East through a dealership network in the region. Kuwait is the first market to receive the Acuras.
   Last year, Honda exported more than 40,000 units of other models through JaxPort to the Middle East, Africa, South America and the Caribbean.
   Honda’s luxury brand is made at plants in Ohio and Alabama. Although vehicles from several automakers are transported to the port’s Blount Island facility on rail by CSX Transportation, the Acuras will be moved by truck, JaxPort spokeswoman Nancy Rubin said.
   JaxPort is the largest port vehicle export port in the United States. In fiscal year 2013, ended Sept. 30, it handled 631,000 total units.
