AMERICAN TO PAY $8-MILLION HAZMAT FINE

   American Airlines has agreed to pay an $8 million fine to federal and
city authorities in Miami for storing a drum of flammable chemicals in its
cargo facility at Miami International Airport.
   American will pay $6 million to the federal government and $2 million to the
Miami fire department. Authorities also have placed American on three years probation and
have ordered the carrier to improve its hazmat inspection operations.
