AMI acquires South African air freight consolidator

AMI, a neutral consolidator to the air freight forwarder industry, has acquired Johannesburg, South Africa-based MMA Consolidators Pty Ltd.

Financial details of the purchase were not disclosed. MMA had served as AMI’s partner in Africa for the past two years.

MMA was started in 2002 by Mike Todd, who will remain as regional director in Africa for AMI.

MMA initially handled imports into South Africa and most recently entered the exports market. MMA has about 30 employees and branch offices in Cape Town and Durban.

“A change to the full AMI identity is likely in early 2009, bringing the company in line with AMI’s operations throughout Australia, New Zealand, China and the USA which were acquired in 2007,” AMI said in a statement.
