Angelo to replace Swift as Intertanko chief

The International Association of Independent Tanker Owners said its council will be invited at its October meeting to appoint Joseph 'Joe' Angelo as managing director, to succeed Peter Swift as managing director when he retires Dec. 31.

In addition, Katharina 'Kathi' Stanzel has been named deputy managing director.

Intertanko membership is open to non-oil companies and non-state-controlled tanker owners that fulfill the association’s membership criteria. Independent owners operate about 80 percent of the world’s tanker fleet and the vast majority are Intertanko members.

Angelo has worked for the association for six years, first as director of regulatory affairs and the Americas and recently as deputy managing director. Prior to joining Intertanko he held senior roles in the U.S. Coast Guard, including director of standards for marine safety, security and environmental protection, where he led U.S. delegations at the International Maritime Organization.

Stanzel was with the International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds. A marine biologist by profession, she has worked in senior technical advisory and claims management roles within the marine pollution sector.
