Antidumping duties slapped on China-produced barium carbonate    The U.S. International Trade Commission approved in a 4-0 vote Sept. 4 the levy of hefty antidumping duties on a chemical made in China that’s used to produce specialty glass, bricks and tiles.
   The Commerce Department will direct the U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection to collect antidumping duties on imports of barium carbonate from China.
   Shipments from Qingdao Red Star Chemical Import & Export Co. will be assessed an antidumping duty of 34.44 percent. Shipments from other Chinese barium carbonate companies will be assessed an 81.30 percent antidumping duty rate.
   Dumping is the sale of an export commodity at a price below the home-market or third-country price or below the cost of production. The dumping margin indicates the extent to which the home-market/third-country price exceeds the export price.
