By tonnage, container volume actually increased slightly more, 7.2 percent, to 101.4 million tons. Bulk freight increased 4 percent to 66 million tons, mostly due to an 11.6 percent increase in dry bulk handled. Roll-on/roll-off volume dipped 0.3 percent to 4 million tons. Conventional/breakbulk volume slid 14.5 percent to 16.9 million tons. Overall, the port handled 189.4 million tons of cargo during the year, a 3.5 percent increase over 2007.
