APL adds third vessel string to Central America route

APL adds third vessel string to Central America route Ocean carrier APL Thursday announced the addition of a third vessel string with fixed weekly sailings beginning June 30 to compliment the Oakland-based line’s CAX and MCX services.
   The first voyage of the Central America East Coast service will commence Northbound from Acajutla, El Salvador, July 3. It will call at Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, July 4; Corinto, Nicaragua, July 5; and arrive at New York July 10, where it will initiate its first southbound voyage.
   Carlos Velez, APL's vice president of the Latin American region, said the decision to add an all-water product to its Central American service is driven by the region’s growth potential, especially in wearing apparel, consumer goods and refrigerated cargo.
   Velez also said the move demonstrates a growing confidence in Central America.
