APL, MOL to start Panama/West Coast South America link

APL, MOL to start Panama/West Coast South America link    APL and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines will start a joint weekly service in January between Balboa, Panama, and ports in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile.
   The new service, pending U.S. Federal Maritime Commission approval, will deploy three vessels, two of which are to be operated by APL and one by MOL. APL will market the service as the “Panama-Andean Express (PAX),” while MOL will call the service “Americas Coast West (ACW).”
   At the same time the new service is starting, APL will end its participation on Compania Sud Americana de Vapores' and Hamburg Sud’s weekly U.S. East Coast/North Coast South America/Panama/West Coast South America “Americas” service.
   The “PAX/ACW” service will provide APL with connections from West Coast South America to North America, Asia and Europe. MOL will use the service to connect the West Coast South America to and from destinations in North America and Europe.
