APL restructures U.S. regions

APL restructures U.S. regions    APL has consolidated four U.S. regions into three as part of an overall effort to restructure its Americas business.
   The liner carrier, a subsidiary of Singapore-based NOL, has divided oversight of its southern region activities among the existing eastern and central regional offices, effective Feb. 1. The southern region includes 14 states, and is considered one of APL's fastest growing U.S. liner destinations.
   Despite this change, APL's on-the-ground operations in the U.S. South will remain intact, said Mike Zampa, APL spokesman.
   George Hearn, formerly vice president and managing director of APL's southern region, has been named vice president and managing director of the carrier's western region. He replaces Keith Shibata, who will now serve as vice president of process improvement and special projects for NOL in Singapore. Based in Irvine, Calif., Hearn will manage sales and network operations for APL in 12 western states. He joined APL nine years ago

   Steve Dolan will continue to serve as vice president and managing director of APL's central region, based in Oak Brook, Ill. He joined APL in 1985 and was named to his current position in 2005.
   Mike Noone remains vice president and managing director of APL's eastern region, based in Union, N.J. He joined APL in 2006 from Maersk Logistics and was named to his current position in 2007.
   Earlier this year, APL announced that it will move its Americas headquarters from Oakland, Calif. to Phoenix, Ariz. The move, which is part of several cost-saving measures implemented by NOL in recent months, is scheduled to take place during the third quarter of 2009. ' Chris Gillis
