APL: Volumes, rates higher

APL: Volumes, rates higher    APL said Monday it handled 204,400 forty-foot-equivalent units of containers in the four-week period ending April 2, 32 percent more than in the same period a year earlier, “mainly due to higher volumes carried from the transpacific and intra-Asia trade lanes.
Rates averaged $2,622 per FEU in the four-week period, 12 percent higher than the average a year earlier. The company said this reflected improved core freight rates and higher bunker recovery, particularly on the Asia/Europe trade lane.
