APM Terminals, local partner to operate Angolan box terminal

   A.P.Moller-Maersk, in a consortium with Angola-based Gest'o de Fundos, has been selected to operate and manage a container terminal in Luanda, Angola, under a 20-year concession.

   The partners will also assume responsibility for container terminal developments, stringent maintenance and repair programs and human resource development.

   The Luanda container terminal handled over 195,000 TEUs in 2002. Current plans will increase capacity to 300,000 TEUs. Berth length is 550 meters, with a 15-hectare container yard.

   A.P. Moller-Maersk will participate in the terminal operation through APM Terminals, its container terminal operating subsidiary. APM Terminals runs over 30 terminals worldwide, generating an annual throughput of more than 18 million TEUs.

   Gest'o de Fundos is an Angolan fund management registered private society. Its objectives include managing, administering and representing pension, investment and real estate funds.
