APMT starts Liberia operations

APMT starts Liberia operations    APM Terminals said Wednesday it has started operations at its facility in the Port of Monrovia in Liberia.
   APMT, the terminal operating arm of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, won a 25-year concession agreement to operate the Port of Monrovia in October, an agreement that includes rehabilitating the quay wall, and developing container and general cargo activities and marine services for the port. APMT said it will invest $120 million during the contract term and have 100 percent ownership of the terminal.
   Monrovia is the main gateway for goods entering and exiting Liberia. The multipurpose port handles containers, roll-on/roll-off and other commodities such a frozen fish, bagged cement and rice. Major customers of the port include organizations like the United Nations Military and U.N. World Food Program.
