Asia/Europe rail link tests resume
DB Schenker earlier this month resurrected its trans-Asia freight rail project linking China to Germany with a test run of a train from Chongqinq to Duisburg, according to a note from the consultant Transport Intelligence.
The German rail and logistics conglomerate initially experimented with the service, even transporting a shipment of containers from China to Germany for electronics company Fujitsu Siemens, before the global recession dampened interest in overland options between Asia and Europe.
The service is designed to compete with ocean freight services by offering speedier transit times. The latest pilot test, run to lure potential customers, was completed in 16 days, the report said.
