Asia-Europe volume falls in April

   Westbound Asia-Europe container volume fell 3.3 percent in April, according to the most recent figures from Container Trade Statistics (CTS).
   Volume fell to just more than 1.1 million TEUs in the month, after the trade saw virtually zero growth in the first quarter, at 3.3 million TEUs.
   Eastbound Europe-to-Asia volume fell 4.8 percent, to 484,500 TEUs. That was a big drop-off from the 9 percent growth seen in the first quarter, when volume reached 1.6 million TEUs, aiding largely by 20 percent growth in January.
   On the transatlantic trade, volume fell 13.4 percent in April eastbound, to 229,800 TEUs, but rose 4 percent westbound, to 289,500 TEUs.
