Asian airlines see “modest” international cargo growth in 2007
International freight traffic carried by the 17 members of the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines increased 3.1 percent to 56.6 million freight ton kilometers (FTKs) in 2007, compared to 54.9 million FTKs in 2006.The average cargo load factor of the Asia-Pacific region airlines in 2007 fell slightly year on year to 66.7 percent.
“Despite the burden of high oil prices and other cost pressures, the regional economies maintained their recent trend of strong growth, supporting further development of both business and leisure traffic,” said Andrew Herdman, the association's director general. “The volume of international air cargo carried by AAPA member airlines in 2007 set a new record, although the growth rate, in FTK terms, was modest.”
The association’s member airlines are: Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, China Airlines, Dragonair, EVA Airways, Garuda Indonesia, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Qantas Airways, Royal Brunei Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways International and Vietnam Airlines.
